Next Sunday, March 7 from 2-4 pm, the Laurel Art Guild Open Juried
Exhibition opens with a reception, gallery talk, and award ceremony.
The Jazz series begins next week with the Michael Thomas Quintet. Tickets are still available for all concerts, but going fast.
Spring class registration is underway and there are many exciting March workshops.
Two new opportunities for artists and musicians have just been
announced, The Library Gallery Competition and The Classical Recital competition. More details are in this newsletter.

John Beckley, Rushern Baker, Alonzo Davis, Cheryl Dyer, Henry Elliott,
Richardson, Elbert R. Roberson, and Kenneth Shepherd, in an exhibition
of diverse artists who have a common heritage and profound links to
Montpelier Arts Center. Co-curated by artist John Beckley and
Montpelier director, Richard Zandler.

March 5-28 41st Annual Laurel Art Guild Open Juried Exhibition, Main Gallery
Juror Michael Janis has chosen a large and diverse entry pool one
of the strongest exhibitions yet. Come see the unveiling at a public
reception and awards ceremony. The juror will also give a short talk.

Michael Thomas Quintet
Multi-faceted horn player, Michael Thomas has played in the Washington
area with all the greats-Keter Betts, Buck Hill, Betty Carter, Jimmy
Heath, Larry Willis and Nasar Abadey to name a few.
Friday, March 12, 8 pm Ethel Ennis with Trio
(Almost sold out -call soon if you want to hear Ethel.)
A favorite at Montpelier, the incomparable Baltimore-based Ennis has sung to critical acclaim all over the world.
Friday, March 19, 8 pm Julie Hall & Trio
Vocalist Julie Hall, a dynamic performer with a gift for conveying the
emotion and intelligence of great lyrics and beautiful melodies,
returns to Montpelier for the third time.
Friday, March 26, 8 pm James King Quartet
Bassist James King has played Montpelier many times with groups such as
SUPERNOVA. He brings his own group known for their versatility and
authenticity to the center this spring.

Spring is coming and Registration is now open. Classes covered by the
spring session begin as early as March 6 for some workshops and
mid-April for most multi-week courses.

Artist Opportunities
Just announced the
2010-12 Library
Gallery Competition.
Held biennially the competition is open to artists 18 and older who live in Maryland.
The juror will select 8-10 month exhibitions to be held in the Library
Gallery. Artists may apply for solo exhibitions or as small groups. An
honorarium of $300 will be presented for each exhibition to the artist
or artists exhibiting.

2010.
The Montpelier Recital Competition
Classical musicians are now being sought for the 2010-2011
This year's juror is Tom Hall, director of the Baltimore Choral Arts Society.
Winners will be presented in recital in the fall of 2010 or 2011.
Each recitalist will receive a $400 honorarium.
Deadline for submissions: June 1, 2010
